So now I have sort of gotten the jist of this whole blog thing.

I just finished calculating my carbon footprint. I was astonished at the results. I thought I was a pretty "green" person, I recycle, I usually try to catch rides with people, I walk places when I am not in a hurry. I'm not. It would take 6.2 planets to sustain mankind if everyone lived the lifestyle that I lead. Thankfully, they do not.

As I was browsing some of the other posts, some of things that people brought up, such as the stats about the traveling distances of Patagonia products, were very interesting. I think someone said it best, "Patagonia is supposed to be an "eco-friendly" company. Yet their non-recyclable sweater traveled over 20,000 miles during production. It saw more travel then, than it will once it is sold." I cannot remember exactly who said that, but I thought that it summed up the situation very well.

Calculation of carbon footprints would be very beneficial for people. It would actually show them how much of an impact they are having on the environment. Now I understand it is impossible to calculate the footprint of all people, but it would be very informative. Even if it was just of the countries that have a major impact, such as the United States, China, Western European countries. It would help everyone to see the impact that each individual has, and hopefully help them to change their ways.
